Melville girl, 17 is killed at level crossing — MELVILLE (Staff) — A 17-year-old Melville girl was killed at about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday when run over by the car from which she jumped at a railway crossing just west of Melville. Dead is Donna Carlton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Durwood. Carlton of Melville. Duane Barrie, a Moose Jaw junior hockey player, who was riding in the car with the girl, said the first he knew of the accident was when the boxcar slammed into the car. He said he and the girl discussed what they should do and decided to jump from the car. The girl, he said, jumped first and he saw her falling under the car and grabbed for her but was unable to hold her and the car ran over her. He said that he, too, had jumped but managed to get clear.
