INQUEST ORDERED — MELVILLE (Staff) — An inquest into the death of Donna Carlton, 17, of Melville who was killed Wednesday morning in a car-train collision was opened Wednesday and adjourned indefinitely by Coroner D.A. McIntyre of Yorkton. The girl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Durwood Carlton of Melville, was killed when she jumped out of the car after it was struck by the train just west of Melville. Duane Barrie Beedle, a Moose Jaw junior hockey player, who was riding in the car with the girl, said he had leaned back his head on the back of the front seat of the car and had closed his eyes just before the train struck the car. He said the car was being pushed down the tracks when he and the girl decided it might be safer to jump. He said the girl jumped first and when he saw her falling under the car he grabbed for her but was unable to hold on and the car ran over her. He said that he too had jumped but managed to get clear. Donna was a student at Melville high school, and the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Carlton. Mr. Carlton is Melville city clerk, Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
